The widespread adoption of AI is transforming how people form social connections, learn, and make decisions. The Psychology and AI Lab (formerly the Digital Emotions Lab) focuses on both understanding how human behavior changes as a result of interactions with AI, and how AI can be designed and improved to enhance human performance and well-being. It conducts systematic empirical research to understand how human-AI interactions shape individuals, organizations, and societies, spanning questions about emotion and social connection, judgment and decision-making, and collective behavior.
The lab also works with organizations to improve their AI tools in order to maximize their utility and empower the people who interact with them. The team includes psychologists, computer scientists, and experts in organizations and management working together to help individuals, organizations, and societies navigate this consequential moment in human history.

Activities/Research Focus
The approach of the Lab will combine experiments, computational modeling, deep learning, and analysis of large-scale digital data. It will seek to answer questions such as:
- How can individual emotions be evaluated?
- Is it possible to predict the occurrence of strong emotional responses, both at the individual and organizational level?
- How can technology be used to help people and collectives change their emotions when they are unhelpful?
